Volunteers

Recruiting volunteers to help out at St. Helena Elementary is how Adopt-A-School got started. Recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers continues to be the core of support provided to the school.

What Do Volunteers Do?

  • Work with students in small groups or one-on-one to provide tutoring in reading, vocabulary, math, and science
  • Read a story aloud to a classroom
  • Assist in Related Art rooms such as the library, music and art
  • Assist as a playground mentor to throw balls and/or chat with students
  • Help a teacher with organizing paperwork, supplies, or books
  • Special assignments such as updating school bulletin boards, helping at Give-Away events, etc.

How Do I Qualify? – I have never been a teacher

  • No teaching experience necessary! You will be given specific assignments with clear directions and needed materials. Remember – these are elementary school children!
  • Volunteers will receive training from the Volunteer Coordinator
  • All volunteers are required to have a background check and be issued a badge to wear in the school.

How Much Time Will It Take?

You decide! Some volunteers help every week on a specific day for an hour or two. Others prefer to help for a specific event and not commit to any schedule. This is a flexible volunteer opportunity.

How to Volunteer?

  • Step 1 – Apply to be a volunteer through The Beaufort County Schools website CLICK HERE. Once there follow the prompts to complete a volunteer application. This step is required in order to complete and pass the mandatory background check before any volunteering can begin.
  • Step 2 – Once Step 1 is completed (the form is complete and submitted), please e-mail us at the address below and let us know you have submitted the background check form.  Our Volunteer Coordinator will then contact you.
